The Disqualified Round Towers of Ireland

Larne (Co. Antrim) – visited 12 August 1998

A tower at the end of a causeway on the fore shore on the north-east side of the town is a modern memorial to James Chaine M.P. who wished to be buried in an upright position overlooking the lough. It is 29m high, modelled on a round tower, but is most incongruous so sited. (B.)
